There are many haunted lighthouse locations across the world and some people in these specific regions will advocate greatly over the true testament of the existing spirit in the lighthouse. Even though there are people who do not believe in ghosts, visiting a haunted lighthouse or just reading its story can become a rather chill-giving experience without even believing in its reality. The fact is that there have been numerous stories attached to various lighthouses, due to the unusual events taking place in or around them and which have introduced them in the haunted lighthouse category.

The haunted lighthouse in Bakers Island, Salem Harbour, Massachusetts, for example still generates a shock in the community. The lighthouse apparently turns on and off by itself. One of the most interesting stories related to this haunted lighthouse is that in 1898, while a reunion of the former light keepers ended on the island, the lighthouse started its sound and light systems for fog. The ferry, on which the people returned, was caught in a storm and all but one of the keepers died. The Bird Island Light, Sippican Harbour, Massachusetts is another location for a haunted lighthouse. The first keeper William “Billy” Moore and his wife, Sarah, lived here. One day, Billy rose the distress flag and all the residents came to see what the trouble was. Instead of finding problems on the waters, they found Sarah dead. Billy was suspected of killing her and he left the region. Since then, the ghost of Sarah has been seen by other keepers and fishermen around the haunted lighthouse and on the coastal lines.

There are many more haunted lighthouse stories and locations in the world. Some of them are accompanied by terrible stories and others by pure mystery. The accidents, tragic deaths and traumatic events have always been the supposed causes of various instances and have generated the apparition of numerous stories. The haunted lighthouse stories people chose to believe is at their own will, as some people swear to have seen the life-less forms, while others deny them completely and refuse accepting proving facts from the others.

Turn A Haunted Lighthouse Into A Museum

[Facebook] [Twitter]

If you are the unlucky owner of a haunted lighthouse, you might find a way to consider yourself lucky. There is surely something you never thought of, but we have a great idea for you – transform your haunted lighthouse into a museum. People are always curious about weird phenomenons and all kind of mysteries, that is why a haunted lighthouse museum would be a great attraction for tourists and even for locals. If you fear that the locals will not approve such a thing, do not worry, a successful business would attract more investment to the area, so this would be a win-win situation. Creepy or not, a haunted lighthouse can become a source of money if you know how to do it. You cannot transform it into a hotel, or a wedding venue, but you can have a great success with a haunted lighthouse museum.

For starter, you should think about the collections. A history museum would be great and you could spread the word that the haunted lighthouse is still inhabited by the early settlers of the city you live in or by those who erected it. An art museum could have success, too. You can make the haunted lighthouse resemble an abandoned property and the artworks could be only vintage items. Of course, these are not the only possibilities. If you are a cinephile, you could open a horror movies museum, but this may limit the number of visitors, as the combination of a haunted lighthouse and horror films can be quite scary.

No matter what is your choice, the main point is that a haunted lighthouse is not a property you should get rid of. It may generate revenues for you and a high income would not be so bad, right? Of course, in order to reach this point, you should make an investment at first, but it would not be so big. When opening a new business, the most expensive thing is usually the location you need, but if you already own the haunted lighthouse, this should be a piece of cake for you and a huge opportunity.

If you want to do something special this Halloween, but you still have no idea what scary new things you could do, think about a haunted lighthouse themed party. For a haunted lighthouse party you would not need a lot of expensive things, only your imagination and a lot of creative energy to set up everything. The main idea of the party would be that you live in a haunted lighthouse and you and all your friends are either spirits wandering around or innocent people who get scared of the ghosts they see. To make your home resemble a haunted lighthouse, you need to work on the interiors of the house, as well as on the facade of it. Do not worry, though, you will not need to pay a fortune for the decorations. You can do everything yourself.

Start with the exteriors of the house. To make it seem like a haunted lighthouse, display on the facade, above the entrance, a really large canvas painted with a lighthouse on it, with white and red, but make is seem dirty and shattered. And make sure the door of the haunted lighthouse matches your door. Torn apart that piece of canvas by the door and make sure everything looks dark and creepy. Buy some fake cobweb and arrange it on the door. In the garden, among the trees you can also arrange cobweb and old and used candles, too. Make sure no other illuminating system is available.

Inside the house you could use carved pumpkins to ensure a subtle light and you can fill the house with cobweb, too. Try to find so poorly looking glasses and only buy beverages that resemble blood. For cocktails, you could buy marshmallow fingers, so when you throw a finger in red wine, it will make it seem like it is freshly cut in your own haunted lighthouse. Adorn the room also with old jars and if you want, you can fill them with dirt and place some tiny candles among them. To make it really seem like a haunted lighthouse, your home should look really creepy, old and weird.

International Haunted Lighthouses

There are quite a few lighthouses around the world which are supposedly haunted by various ghosts of people who died at these locations. Point Loma lighthouse is one of the most famous of these haunted spots at the sea with multiple people claiming that they have heard the sound of footsteps as well as strange moaning noises which echo throughout the space of the lighthouse. The person who is suspected of haunting it is Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo who was a Portuguese explorer who claimed the entire coastal region in the mid 1500s. Because the lighthouse was built on the land that he claimed, it is said that his ghost haunts it because he is trying to scare away anyone who steps foot inside it in an effort to scare them away.

Quite a few people are also familiar with the New London Ledge lighthouse which is located in Connecticut. This particular lighthouse is located right off of the Thames River and at the end of Long Island Sound. There are a number of things about this lighthouse which set it apart from others, including the architecture itself. In an effort to blend in with the other structures in the area, the lighthouse was rebuilt to suit the Colonial style at the time, thereby disrupting the spirits who initially built the lighthouse and causing a lot of strange and unexplained occurrences through the years and it continues even today.

Haunted Lighthouse – St. Augustine, FL

[Facebook] [Twitter]

One famously haunted lighthouse is located in St. Augustine, Florida. The original lighthouse was built in 1824. This lighthouse saw two deaths-the death of Head Keeper John Carrera from natural causes in 1853, and the death of Head Keeper Joseph Andreu in a fall in 1859.

In 1874, due to erosion, the lighthouse needed to be rebuilt about 1/4 mile away from its original location. One of the men who owned land where the new lighthouse was to be built did not want to give up his property. He swore he would never leave it. His ghost has been sighted on the lighthouse grounds, so perhaps he never has.

The most tragic story involving the lighthouse centers on the deaths of two of the daughters of the superintendent of construction and the death of a young African American girl. The children were playing in a cart that brought supplies from the ships to the lighthouse when the cart went off its track into the ocean and the three children drowned.

Now some tourists report hearing the laughter of children in the lighthouse tower, and some people have spoken of seeing a lone girl near the top section of the lighthouse.

The other four known deaths that have occurred at the St. Augustine lighthouse have all been due to natural causes. There have been no verified reports of murders or suicides.

Still some people say they have heard the ghosts of former Head Keepers roaming the lighthouse at night. One Head Keeper who died at the lighthouse smoked cigars. Today, people report smelling cigar smoke.

There are certainly many otherworldly mysteries at the St. Augustine lighthouse.

There have been many different tales about haunting in houses, on old deserted roads and in dark and scary forests but the most often told stories about ghosts often come out of the haunted lighthouse where either a disgruntle lighthouse keeper dies suddenly and haunts the lighthouse or he kills his wife or children who then haunt him in the lighthouse. The problem with the second scenario is that once the lighthouse keeper is gone the ghost stays and haunts the lighthouse trying to torture their father or husband.

This story can be heard in just about every country around the world where one or more lighthouses are said to be haunted. There are some out there which are very difficult to sleep at over night because of all the strange things that happen during the night. Object moving themselves or the light turning on for no reason, even further deaths have been said to be the cause of the ghosts in the lighthouses. Many of the lighthouses have sad stories like the wife that cheated on her husband with the second lighthouse keeper so when her husband found out he went around and killed everyone from the other family. These houses that are the residence of the lighthouse keepers have their own gruesome tales to tell.

A few good movies and several books have been made about some of the fantastic stories about haunting in the lighthouses. They are said to be fictional however there are many people that will swear they are living proof that these places do have a paranormal activity happening in them. There are tours of haunted lighthouses as well as tours that take you on haunted tours in several different places in one night they are all fun, a little scary but worth going to see, if not for the ghosts but just to see the lighthouses around the world.

The Haunted Lighthouse of Manitinicus

[Facebook] [Twitter]

The haunted lighthouse of Manitinicus in Maine is haunted by one of its past keepers. Many people don’t realize that lighthouse keepers often committed suicide because of the life of solitude and loneliness that they lived. The lighthouse of Manitinicus is one such case. After the keeper committed suicide, the government hired another lighthouse keeper to fill the position. But the next keeper was a little too curious for his own good.

The new lighthouse keeper was wandering around inside the lighthouse one evening when he came across an area that seemed to have been closed off. Taking off the boards that were over the area and forcing his way in, the new keeper eventually made his way inside to what he saw was a small kitchen. As soon as he stepped in however, cupboard doors started flying open and dishes flew off the table. Light bulbs that were once firmly in place in their sockets suddenly shattered, or blew right out as soon as they were replaced.

Very soon after the new keeper opened the area and unleashed all the paranormal activity, the area was immediately reclosed again and peace returned to the lighthouse. Until one day when some inspectors came to see the lighthouse. Because they needed to inspect the entire building, the area that was closed off was opened once again. As soon as that happened, the chaos returned. The inspectors were so frightened that they ordered the area to be closed permanently and they never spoke of their experience again. In their report, they reported that there was “nothing unusual” about the lighthouse.
